Seeking CFA Member to Prepare a Submission to a Review of the AFIA Car Rental Code

The Australian Finance Industry Association (AFIA) is reviewing its Car Rental Code.

Signatories of this code include Avis Budget Group, Hertz, Europcar, Thrifty, East Coast Car Rentals, Sixt, Bayswater Car Rental and Redspot/Enterprise. The Code ensures an industry standard is met on a number of issues, including transparency of pricing and credit card charging practices, rental contract terms and damage assessment and billing.

CFA is seeking expressions of interest from its membership to provide a consumer submission to this review. The successful organisation or person would be required to:

  • Seek views from other CFA members and consumer groups to inform submissions;
  • Draft and coordinate a written submission that responds to a redraft of the Code following AFIA’s review;
  • Attend relevant meetings and discussions with CFA and/or AFIA.

The resourcing provided by AFIA to CFA and available for this work is between $4,000 and $5,000. If you are interested in undertaking this project, please respond through a short expression of interest (no more than 1 page) outlining:

  • Your capacity to undertake this project, and who will lead the work;
  • Your approach to identifying issues and seeking views from other consumer groups;
  • Any examples of previous recent joint consumer group submissions.

You will need to have availability to do this work during April and early May 2024.

Please send expressions of interest to info@consumersfederation.org.au by c.o.b. Tuesday 2 April 2024. If this date is difficult, please contact CFA Chair Gerard Brody at chair@consumersfederation.org.au or 0415 223 211.
