Warning issued on unsafe child restraints

The Hon Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, David Bradbury, issued a public warning notice on particular types of unsafe child car restraints sold through an online retailer. These car restraints are marketed under various names including ‘Baby Car Seat Pouch’, ‘Portable belt baby car safety seat for 1-5 years old’ and ‘Portable baby car safety seat for 20-40 lbs’. These products are sold through some online retailers. They pose potential safety hazards and are likely to fail to protect children adequately in an accident.

The notice is available on the Product Safety Australia website.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer has also issued a media release about the warning notice.

The CFA Standards Project has a consumer representative on the Standards Australia Technical Committee CS-085 Child restraints for use in motor vehicles.  The committee is currently revising a number of standards to assess if changes in vehicle models may be having any effects on child seat performance and is drafting a new standard for accessories for child restraints.
