New CSIRO project Quantum timing technology has developed two portable quantum-enabled timing devices that have potential benefits for consumer infrastructure including communications networks, transport systems, power grids, and financial services. Designed to help maintain secure timing for critical systems when Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, including GPS, are disrupted. CSIRO said the project also contributes to Australia’s autonomous capability in quantum technologies by developing key components locally for future secure communications, navigation, and timing systems.
Established in 2024, Quantum Australia helps drive the growth of Australia’s quantum ecosystem by delivering programs that support the National Quantum Strategy, programs to accelerate quantum industry growth, drive collaboration, and unlock commercial and societal impact, explore the Quantum Ecosystem map.
