Consultation Opens on ‘Phase Two’ of Online Safety Codes

Following the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth.), industry associations have been tasked with developing codes of practice to protect Australians from a number of materials online. The draft codes for phase two, covering Classes 1C and 2 materials, have now been released and are available for public comment here. Consultation will be open from October 22 to and closing at 11:59pm AEST on 22/11/2024. The stated design of the phase 2 drafts are to:

  • Protect and prevent children in Australia from accessing or being exposed to class 1C and Class 2 material.
  • Provide end-users in Australia with effective information, tools and options to limit access and exposure to class 1C and class 2 material.

You can find out more about the draft codes, industry position, and the eSafety Commissions position on the development of phase 2 codes here.
