Call for Expressions of Interest for new COBCCC Consumer Representative

The Consumers’ Federation of Australia (CFA) is inviting suitable applicants to apply for the role of consumer representative on the Customer Owned Banking Code Compliance Committee (COBCCC).

Details of the purpose and conditions of the role, including renumeration, are as follows:

Purpose of the COBCCC

  • Examine and report on the practices of customer owned banking institutions.
  • Identify current and emerging systemic industry-wide problems.
  • Promote good practice.
  • Sanction customer owned banking institutions for serious compliance failures.
  • Consult and keep stakeholders and the public informed.

Purpose of the Consumer Representative

  • Identify emerging issues and provide insights into consumer experiences and interests.
  • Contributing to productive, focused and collaborative discussions and decision-making.
  • Help ensure Committee guidance and compliance expectations are practical, clear and effective.
  • Consider how the Code should evolve and identify any gaps, including Committee input into periodic reviews of the Code.
  • Represent the COBCCC at industry events, conferences and stakeholder meetings.  
  • Supporting the COBCCC in operating in accordance with their obligations under the Code, Charter and any other relevant requirements, including but not limited to acting impartially and objectively in the discharge of their duty and complying with confidentiality obligations.

A Consumer Representative to the COBCCC is appointed by CFA for one three-year term, the consumer representative may be re-appointed for another three-year term but cannot serve more than two terms consecutively. Renumeration for the position is $29,000 per annum.
