Mr Peter Kell and Mr Greg Tanzer have been appointed ASIC Commissioners. Both formerly worked at ASIC. Peter has been Deputy Chair of the ACCC for the past 3 years and prior to that was CEO of CFA member CHOICE.
ASIC Chairman Mr Greg Medcraft also recognised the contribution of Commissioner Mr Michael Dwyer, who has decided not to renew his 3-year term, which finishes in December.
‘I welcome both Mr Tanzer and Mr Kell back to ASIC. Each has considerable regulatory experience and will replenish ASIC’s leadership at the commissioner level,’ Mr Medcraft said.
‘I would also like to thank Michael Dwyer for his service and friendship over the last three years. His experience – especially in the insolvency, accounting and financial reporting areas – is significant and has been of tremendous benefit to ASIC, particularly through a period of parliamentary scrutiny and, more generally, during the challenges of the Global Financial Crisis.’
Mr Dwyer’s term expires on 11 December 2011.
Greg Tanzer rejoins ASIC as Commissioner and has been appointed for a 4-year term beginning 23 January 2012.
He has been Secretary General of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) since November 2007 and spent a number of years as ASIC’s Executive Director for Consumer Protection and International.
Peter Kell also rejoins ASIC as a Commissioner and has been appointed for a 5-year term beginning on 7 November 2011.
Before ASIC, Mr Kell was for three years Deputy Chair of the ACCC. Before the ACCC, he was Chief Executive of CHOICE (the Australian Consumers Association).
Mr Kell joined ASIC originally in 1998 and served as Executive Director of Consumer Protection and as ASIC’s NSW Regional Commissioner until 2004.
