Ombudsman updates treatment of flood insurance disputes

The Financial Ombudsman Service has issued a special update on how it treats flood insurance matters Circular Issue 7 – Update 1 – Flood Edition – Nov 2011

In order to promote understanding about the FOS process with regard to flood insurance disputes, we have published a special edition of The Circular.

This edition covers examples of binding decisions (called Determinations) and focuses on three key areas:

  • whether the consumer was clearly informed of policy coverage
  • whether the consumer had received all pertinent documentation
  • the use and analysis of Hydrology Reports, as well as the application of exclusion clauses

FOS advises interested people to regularly check back with www.fos.org.au to find an updated list of highlighted Determinations as further flood cases are finalised.
