Shared vision for a better world: Spotlight on SDG 9 Industry, innovation, and infrastructure in the age of AI

Standards are voluntary technical agreements that impact almost every part of our daily lives. They ensure that products and services work the way that we expect them to, making life safer and easier. There’s a role for standards in achieving the  United Nations SDG 9 – or Sustainable Development Goals – which focuses on building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation. Standards act as accelerators in providing and implementing solutions. Positive change is driven by communicating and testing ideas – standards support innovation management and level the playing field – view the video.

World Standards Day pays tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as Standards. You can be part of the standards movement for a better world by learning about standards, using standards, contributing to developing standards and advocating for standards. Consumers Federation of Australia (CFA) acknowledges the CFA representatives who participate on Standards Australia technical committees as part of the CFA Standards Project ensuring the impact on consumers is always a central part of committee considerations. Standards are essential to achieving the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and creating a fairer, more sustainable world. The 2030 Agenda adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), each SDG presents an urgent call to action, and achieving them requires our collective effort and in almost all cases, there’s a role for standards.
