What’s happening with quantum technology?

Quantum technology is already making waves in computing, communications, and sensing. Last year (2025) was proclaimed by the UN as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (see highlights and video), now’s the time to understand what’s coming, and find out more in Standards Australia’s Quantum technologies fact sheet

Imagine solving complex problems that would take today’s supercomputers years—in just minutes. This tech could change everything from drug discovery to climate modelling and logistics.
The development of computers, sensors and communications systems based on the principles of quantum mechanics is set to drive a technological revolution in the coming decades – one that will impact every sector of the economy, find out more on Standards Australia’s Quantum Technologies

As part to the CFA Standards Project, CFA supports a representative to the Standards Australia committee QT-001 Quantum technology which mirrors the work of IEC/ISO JTC 3 – Quantum technologies. Standards Australia has published two Australian standards AS 5405:2025 Quantum technology – Reference guide to quantum computing and AS 5535:2025 Information technology – Quantum computing – Vocabulary (ISO/IEC 4879:2024, IDT). Anyone can view a standard FREE in the Standards Australia –Reader Room after registering you will have access to three (3) unique standards in one calendar year, with unlimited access to each standard for a 24-hour period, find out more on this video. Find out why standards are important to consumers, and how to get involved.
