CFA representatives have contributed to the development of standards which make our summer safer.
Slip, slop, slap
Use a Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen certified to AS/NZS 2604:2012 Sunscreen products at least 20 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every 2 hours.
Put on a pair of sunglasses that meet AS/NZS 1067 Sunglasses and fashion spectacles as a defence against eye damage.
Don’t burn your sausages or yourself
Barbeques are part of Australian life. Always check for leaking gas at the cylinder connection. When in doubt, turn off the gas and contact a licensed gasfitter. The Australian Standard AS 4557 Domestic outdoor gas barbeques provides uniform minimum requirements for the safety, performance and use of domestic outdoor gas barbecues.
Whether you’re at the beach or pool, have a designated supervisor in your group at all times (even when you think no one is swimming!). Home swimming pool safety includes safety of fencing and gating covered by AS 1926:2012 Swimming pool safety Standards set and AS 2818:1993 Guide to swimming pool safety. See also Home Pool Safety Checklist from Royal Life Saving Society Australia.
