ACMA invites consumer reps to join key telco forum

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) invites applications from consumer organisations to join its key telco consumer advisory group—the Consumer Consultative Forum (CCF).

‘Communications services are increasingly central to Australia’s economic and social wellbeing. We want to better understand the consumers’ needs in the contemporary and future communications environment’ ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin.

The CCF brings together representatives from consumer and industry groups and government to advise the ACMA on appropriate telco consumer safeguards. This has recently included providing valuable feedback on the ACMA’s new rules to better protect consumers moving to NBN-based services.

‘To effectively undertake our work, the ACMA needs to hear the voices of consumers through their representative bodies. These organisations can also be providers of important telco safeguard information to their members,’ said Ms O’Loughlin.

The ACMA seeks applications from consumer advocacy bodies, and other organisations familiar with the needs of consumers.

‘The ACMA is particularly interested in hearing from organisations that can represent young people, people with disabilities, people living in rural areas, older Australians and non-English-speaking communities,’ Ms O’Loughlin added.

Successful applicants will be appointed for three years and will join the permanent members of the CCF. CCF consumer members must be an organisation that meets criteria available on the ACMA website.

If you think your organisation can help inform the ACMA on telco consumer issues and experiences, apply today. Applications close 25 July 2018.
