Two weeks ago changes to vaping laws were made via reforms to customs and therapeutic goods regulations. The reforms focus primarily on the sale and importation of disposable vapes and on the prescription of vapes for therapeutic purposes by qualified medical practitioners.

The reforms go into effect on January 1st 2024, and by March 1st 2024 the importation of all non-therapeutic vapes into Australia will be prohibited with sales of legally imported non-therapeutic vapes left to the discretion of relevant state and territory laws provided no vape is falsely claimed to be therapeutic and that nicotine is absent in the product.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has a media release on the reforms available on their website here and more specific information on the reforms and regulations here. The TGA is also running an online webinar on the recent vaping reforms at 3:30-4:30pm AEDT 17 January 2024, with Principal Legal and Policy Adviser at the TGA Dr Bridget Gilmour-Walsh providing an overview of the changes that will be implemented throughout 2024.
