The Position
The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Limited (TIO) is seeking expressions of interest to appoint a Director with Consumer Experience, to commence in February 2024 with their first meeting in April.
The Board has overall responsibility for the business affairs, preparing the goals and overall strategy of the company, setting annual financial budgets, and approving the company’s statutory accounts. The Board is chaired by an Independent Director and contains a relevant mix of industry, consumer, not for profit, commercial and governance experience. Collectively, Directors bring the skills, expertise, and experience to enable the company to understand the needs of consumers, the industry and effective dispute resolution.
The Director with Consumer Experience must have links to consumer groups representing users of telecommunications including individuals and small business or agencies representing public interest issues relevant to telecommunications.
The position requires knowledge in governance, policy development and stakeholder engagement. The successful appointee will bring a reputation for applying the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
The appointment is for three years and offers appropriate remuneration for services provided. Board members are required to attend at least six regular meetings per year and participate in a subcommittee.

The Organisation
The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Limited (TIO), was established in 1993 to provide a free and independent dispute resolution service for small business and residential consumers who have an unresolved complaint about their telephone or internet service in Australia.
The TIO scheme is an industry-based customer dispute resolution scheme that adheres to Federal Government issued Benchmarks and Key Practices for industry-based customer dispute resolution.
The organisation works with individual and small business consumers, scheme members, industry and consumer organisations, regulators, and government.
