National Recycling Week 13-19 November, established by Planet Ark in 1996, encourages Australians to better recycle. This year’s theme is What goes around comes around. Join your community and get involved in events about giving resources a second life, consuming less, reducing the need for new resources, and of course, recycling! Reducing our waste not only keeps valuable materials out of landfill it also benefits the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Rising costs have caused an increase in people using refurbished items, the recycling market has seen a leap in buyers as interest rates, food prices, rents, and utility bills continue to rise. Find more about reuse centres such as the Mount Gambier ReUse Market and repair cafes see the Australian Repair Network.
Consumer Federation of Australia (CFA) engages with these issues by supporting representatives to Standards Australia committees such as EV-022 Circular economy and CS-004 Labelling of Textiles as part of the CFA Standards Project. View an Australian Standard FREE OF CHARGE, find out more here
