The Medical Board of Australia (the Board) is now consulting on three documents relating to regulation of medical practitioners who provide cosmetic surgery. The documents are in response to recommendations in the Independent review of the regulation of medical practitioners who perform cosmetic surgery.
- Draft Registration standard: Endorsement of registration for cosmetic surgery for registered medical practitioners
- Draft revised Guidelines for medical practitioners who perform cosmetic medical and surgical procedures
- Draft Guidelines for medical practitioners who advertise cosmetic surgery
Public consultation: Regulation of medical practitioners who provide cosmetic medical and surgical procedures (899 KB,PDF), Word version (370 KB,DOCX)
Health Ministers expect the Board to take urgent action to reform medical regulation of cosmetic surgery. This is a shorter, streamlined consultation process designed to meet the timeframes expected by Ministers. The approach to consultation takes into account the extensive public consultation undertaken as part of the independent review.
