The recommended pram and stroller safety essentials are the AS/NZS 2088 label on the item, a sturdy frame, a five-point harness and a tether strap, according to the Australian Parenting website. Standards Australia recently published the revised AS 2088:2022 Prams and strollers – Safety requirements which provides manufacturers, authorities, and others with minimum safety requirements for prams and strollers to reduce the likelihood of injury to children. Read the CHOICE review of prams that failed the safety tests and that you should avoid buying here as well as Things to consider before buying your first pram. The ACCC Product Safety Prams and strollers includes buying tips and identifies products that have been recalled (i.e. have defects/hazards).
Committee members of Standards Australia CS-020 Prams and strollers made a significant contribution and effort in reviewing the standard. Standards Australia brings together key parties and stakeholders to form a technical committee which collaborates to develop standards. As part of the CFA Standards Project, CFA Representative on the committee brings their own expertise with equal importance as that brought by representatives of industry, government, testing organisations or other stakeholder groups. CFA Representatives play a critical role in conveying the voice of the consumer and their work results in better, more relevant standards and more desirable end products.
