Positions Open on Consumers’ Association of South Australia Committee

From the Consumers SA November 2023 Newsletter:

Are you interested in consumer issues and looking to broaden your volunteering and work experience? The Consumers’ Association of South Australia is the South Australian voice for consumers, representing consumer interests, encouraging the distribution of information on issues affecting consumers, and providing opportunity for discussion of some of the following issues:

  • Power and water
  • Renting
  • Misleading prices and advertising
  • Product recalls
  • Faulty and unsafe products

The Association is looking for new Executive Committee members and a Treasurer to join their executive committee. Residence in South Australia is strongly preferred.

Committee Member

Your role would include:

  • Regularly attend committee meetings
  • Draft submissions to Federal/State inquiries
  • Contribute to collective decision making to further the interests of the
  • Association
  • Opportunities to join various consumer action groups
  • Advocating for issues that impact consumers

About you

  • An interest and willingness to learn about consumer affairs
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • Expertise in one or more of the following would be helpful:
  • Prior experience with a not-for-profit organisation or on a board is highly
  • desirable.

Time Commitment:
Approximately 3-4 hours per month working from home. Formal time commitments include 8-10 Committee meetings per year, one AGM and email communication. Committee meetings are held in the evenings.

Treasurer

Your role would include:

  • Oversee, review and guide financial management (including planning,
  • budgeting and reporting)
  • Ensure financial risk is mitigated
  • Contribute to strategic planning and follow good governance
  • Establish a framework for financial management procedures
  • Prepare annual Reports and meet all financial annual reporting requirements
  • Maintain full oversight of all financial activity
  • Oversee reimbursement process for purchases made by committee members

About You:

  • Strong financial skills and insight
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Personal interest in Consumer and Business Affairs
  • Be trustworthy, methodical and reliable
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business or Finance would be beneficial
  • in the role, although not essential.
