The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) has engaged independent consultants to conduct a review TIO scheme, as required by legislation.
The purpose of the review is to ensure that the TIO can continue to work effectively and meet the needs of consumers, its members and the telecommunications industry.
The review will be the first of its kind after the Telecommunication (Consumer Services and Standards) Act 1999 (Cth) was amended so that an independent review is required by law to be carried out every five years.
The Act requires the review to
- be conducted by a person who is independent of the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman and the telecommunications industry;
- include public consultation as well as consultation with the ACMA and the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman;
- be given to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman who must give a copy to the Minister and publish the report on the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman’s website.
Consumers’ Federation of Australia member ACCAN will be preparing a consumer submission for the review.
The review will involve a public consultation and invite submissions from a range of stakeholders, including consumers, regulators and industry.
Submissions are requested by Friday 23rd June. Please forward written submissions in electronic form to:
