The Financial and Consumer Rights Council (FCRC) is the peak body for Financial Counsellors in Victoria. The FCRC actively supports Financial Counsellors by promoting the needs of those experiencing financial hardship. FCRC works with government, the banking sector, utilities, debt collection and many other sectors and organisations that impact upon those who do it tougher than the rest.
As the peak body representing financial counsellors, FCRC not only advocates for the continued funding and expansion of the sector to meet community needs; they are also the primary support and development body focused on professionalising and resourcing the sector. FCRC provides:
- Professional development training
- The co-ordination and delivery of an annual statewide conference focusing on issues relevant to Financial Counsellors and their clients
- Development and support of working groups and regional networks
- Representation for the sector to industry and government.
FCRC’s 2013 Conference
FCRC’s 2013 annual conference was a huge success. Over 180 people attended the event, which had an insightful program filled with a wide variety of speakers and consumer advocates. The annual conference is an event members look forward too as it is not only a fantastic networking opportunity, but also a chance to gain valuable professional development skills, with points available for members.
In 2013, the conference was held in the beautiful surroundings of country Victoria, and provided all FCRC members the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, regulators, ombudsman schemes and industry stakeholders.
This years’ key note speaker was Mr. Alan Kirkland, CEO of CHOICE who addressed present gains and future challenges within the consumer protection landscape.
