Are you concerned about increasing cost of medicines? Would you worry if Australians could be jailed for illegally downloading an episode of Game of Thrones? Do you want to know if your muesli bar contains palm oil?
CHOICE is continuing its campaign to unlock the secrecy surrounding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a trade agreement being negotiated in secret between Australia, Brunei, Chile, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam.
CHOICE’s petition calling for transparency has received more than 14,000 signatures and been delivered to the Federal Parliament, and their supporters raised enough money run a half-page advertisement in The Australian last December. Meanwhile, 892 CHOICE supporters signed up to their Thunderclap to spread the word over social media. It’s not too late to join the conversation – you can still get involved by using the #ReleaseTheText hashtag.
14,000 signatures delivered to Parliament House: (L-R) Senator John Madigan, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, CHOICE CEO Alan Kirkland and Andrew Wilkie MP.
But there is more work to do. Download CHOICE’s TPP campaigners kit with the information you need on what you can do next to advocate for this crucial issue. Or, head to the campaign page to learn more about:
- The secrecy surrounding the TPP and details of how the media is being locked out of briefings
