As a not-for-profit charitable organization, Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Inc. provides legal advice and representation to WA consumers, in credit, banking and finance sectors.
They also provide consumer voices to WA consumers on issues of policy and law reform. CCLAWA also take an active role in community legal education through media, seminars and publications, aiming to raise general public awareness of consumer rights in credit, banking and financial service areas.
Education
CCLSWA provides training and workshops on consumer credit law related topics to community legal centres, financial counsellors, and community workers. They also give community education talks at schools and non government organisations.
Law Reform
CCLSWA provides a consumer voice in Western Australia on policy and law reform issues. They also actively engage nationally on issues such as reforms to the Consumer Credit Code. Other key policy activities are directed at lobbying for changes to unfair industry practices.
Youth Legal Education
CCLSWA offers legal education seminars to Year 11/12 students. They empower them to make better financial & legal decisions. For example, the CCLSWA presents engaging, relevant content on signing a contract, credit files, credit cards and spending free money, mobile phone contracts, the law on alcohol and drug use, driver’s license, buying first car, and becoming a lawyer.
